Kasturba Medical College aims towards the welfare of the people below poverty line by providing feasibile treatment to them, said Manipal University Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal.
He was speaking after the symbolic distribution of ‘Manipal Arogya Suraksha’ group health benefit cards to the beneficiaries at a programme held in KMC, Attavar in Mangalore on Friday. The Manipal Health Cards will be of great help to those families which face difficulties due to the sickness of the bread earner of the family. The card provides consession and free medical consultation thus lessening the burden of medical expenses to a great extent, Prof Ballal said.
He also said that expecting the Government to do everything will not serve the purpose specailly in fields of health and edcuation. Private enterprices should also work in this regard. By public and private partnerships, more better things could be achieved.
Manipal Education Series DGM Dr Shripathi gave details on the benefits of health card and said that the project was started in July 2005. The scheme is now extended to 1810 people from 633 families of Attvar.
Concessions in hospital expenses upto Rs 30,000 in Attavar KMC is facilitated by the card along with free consultation, which is applicable to all family members for the duration of one year.
The card holders will also be provided with an insurance of Rs 30,000 which will be given to the family memers in case of sudden death of the family supporter. Also, post delivery treatment and inpaitient treatments are covered. The benefits of the card can be reaped by people ranging in the age group of 91 days to 85 years, he said.
Corporator Vinay Raj, former corporator Raghunath Kini, Manipal University Registrar G K Prabhu also spoke.
