Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar said on Sunday that he suspected large-scale corruption in awarding grants and works under the Nava Bengaluru scheme to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL).

He was addressing a press conference in the city. Shettar said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and some others had taken money from contractors in Bengaluru and other districts.

"The works have been awarded to KRIDL, so that the contractors who gave the money are benefited. KRIDL director Venkatesh is a relative of Kumaraswamy and former prime minister Deve Gowda," he said.

Shettar said his party had approached the Election Commission over the awarding of the scheme as the model code of conduct will be in force till May 23.
