Given away by the Crafts Council of Karnataka, the awards were presented to Bhagyalakshmi for her work in Mysore traditional painting, to S Somashekar for his work on bronze casting, and to Vidya Bhat for her work in Ganjifa art and traditional miniature painting. The G Venkatachalam memorial award was conferred on art critic S N Chandrashekar.
The Governor said artists played an important role in improving our standing in the world. “When I was on the Indo-US Council to improve relations in higher education, we would gift our counterparts from the US craft items,” said Bhardwaj.
