'Babu Jagjivan Ram was epitome of social justice'

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar said that Babu Jagjivan Ram was an epitome of social justice. He was also the pioneer of the Green Revolution.

He was speaking during the Babu Jagjivan Ram's 110th birth anniversary observed jointly by the district administration, the Zilla Panchayat, the City Municipal Council, the Department of Social Welfare and the Dr B R Ambedkar Development Corporation at Kuvempu Kalamandira in Chikkamagaluru town on Thursday.

"Babu Jagjivan Ram was fondly known as 'Babu'. He fought against the caste system and strived for the development of neglected communities. During his tenure as minister of agriculture, defence and labour in the Union government and as the deputy prime minister, he was known for his pro-development mindset. His role in the implementation of labour law is acknowledged," said the officer.
