Banks should fulfil their social responsibility by providing loans towards the marriage of people from financially less privileged families, said Congress leader B L Shankar.

He was speaking during the mass marriage function organised by Al-Wafa Charitable Trust and District Beary Okkoota, at Seeta Dayananda Pai Kalyana Mantapa in Chikkamagaluru on Sunday.

Marriage is the most essential part of life. While some people consider the marriage functions as their status symbol, people from financially less privileged families find it hard to manage the expenses of marriage. Banks should come forward to provide loans to such people, he said.

He added that religious institutions and other organisations should conduct simple mass marriages.
