He is battling for life in a private hospital and his condition is said to be very critical. It is said that he was depressed over his prolonged illness.

According to the information available, Shetty left his home in Bolanthur in the morning saying that he would visit his ancestral house, located a little distance away from his new residence.

As he did not return till afternoon, his wife asked her brother-in-law Shivaprakash to look for him. When Shivaprakash reached the house, he found the house locked from inside.

As there was no response to the calling bell, he broke open the door with the help of the servants and found Shetty lying in a pool of blood. A revolver was also found lying next to him. Immediately, he was rushed to the hospital.

Shetty was a member of the Veerakamba Gram Panchayat and President before being elected to the Taluk Panchayat. He has served as the president of taluk panchayat from 2007 to 2009.

He was also managing trustee of Annapoorneshwari temple in Bantwal which was renovated completely under his leadership last year. A case has been registered.
