Addressing a huge audience, after inaugurating the Basava Smarak Bhavan at Bagewadi town on Sunday, he described Basavanna as the greatest champion of social equality and socio-economic transformation.

Yeddyurappa announced that to relive Basavanna’s down to earth concerns, a mammoth farmers’ meet to educate them about the importance of organic farming would be held  in Kudala Sangama shortly. Former president APJ Abdul Kalam would inaugurate the meet, he revealed.

He also declared that a convention of all the elected Gram Panchayat members would be held in June to educate them about decentralisation of power for the welfare and development of their villages.

He said Taralabalu Swamiji and Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala would grace the convention.
