The three-day long beach festival concluded on the shores of Panambur beach with a musical concert by Manikanth Kadri and dances.
Thousands of visitors visited Panambur beach. The festival featured beach volleyball, Aaharotsava (food festival), a demonstration on kite preparation, sand sculptures, drum jam, Yoga, Udayaraga and Zumba.
Speaking at the valedictory, District-in-Charge Minister U T Khader said Karavali Utsav had mirrored the culture and tradition of the land; as also its communal harmony and brotherhood.
An attempt should be made to popularise beaches in the district by promoting tourism, the minister said. This would improve the economy of the district. The Kerala and Goa governments had developed beaches by promoting tourism, he pointed out.
Karavali Gaurava Prashasthi was conferred on Prof Hilda Rayappan on the occasion. Prof Rayappan in her address said a few untoward incidents had besmirched the district’s reputation. There was a need to spread the message of brotherhood and harmony in society, she added.
“Tulu Nadu is a pluralistic society which has embraced all in its fold. It is a land of multiple languages. Our forefathers have taught us living in harmony,” she said.
A sand sculpture by Sandesh Matpady, Ravi Hirebettu and Purandara Thottam highlighting communal harmony attracted people’s attention on Panambur beach on Sunday.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, MUDA (Mangalore Urban Development Authority) Commissioner Srikanth Rao and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar were present.
