Officials from the Forest Department confirmed that the bear died when the substance it had accidentally eaten exploded.

Foresters who were patrolling the Kothanuru Wildlife Range found the carcass of the bear, and intimated their senior officials.

Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary Deputy Conservator of Forests Surendra visited the spot, and inspected the site where the foresters had found the bear's body.

Forest Department officials opined that the explosives had been placed within the range by those looking to prevent wild boars from straying into their farms, leading to such unfortunate incidents.

Meanwhile, officials said that efforts would be made to raise awareness among people against using explosives, while adding that steps would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
