Currently, KMF is second behind AMUL of Gujarat and produces around 40 lakh litres of milk every day.

Yeddyurappa was speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised by Somashekara Reddy, to express his gratitude after the CM had announced a subsidy of Rs 2 for every litre of milk produced by the dairy farmers.  He advised milk producers to increase the produce to about 50 lakh litres per day, which would mean that the government would provide a subsidy of Rs 1 crore per day.

Chairman Reddy also set his own ambitious mandate for increasing milk production. “We have to increase the produce from 80 lakh to 1 crore litres per day to meet the demand from not just other states but foreign countries too.” He said that KMF had already undertaken a series of measures to increase production and promised that profits made from the milk will be given to the dairy farmers who are responsible for the wealth generation.

Reddy announced that KMF would contribute Rs 1 crore towards the CM’s relief fund for drought and flood-hit districts. He urged Yeddyurappa to consider a group insurance scheme for milk producers along the lines of the group insurance given to farmers in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. Meanwhile, the CM was also given the title ‘Ksheera Bandhu’ (Friend of the Dairy farmers) at the ceremony.
