Belagavi group clash: Absconding corporator arrested

The city police on Saturday nabbed Belagavi City Corporation Corporator Fayeem Ikbal Ahmed Naikwadi, who was absconding after a clash between two groups reported at Gandhi Nagar here on July 12.

The Malmaruti police, acting on a tip-off, arrested Naikwadi who was hiding at his relative’s house at Alnavar in Dharwad district in the early hours of Saturday. The police produced him before the 2nd Judicial Magistrate First Class Court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
The police had arrested 57 persons and registered 11 cases in connection with Gandhi Nagar clash.

Naikwadi, who was absconding since the clash had managed to get an anticipatory bail in a case. The police, however, arrested him in connection with another case related to the same incident and have booked him under Sections 143, 147, 148, 354, 394 of Indian Penal Code.
All those arrested were housed at Central Jail, Ballari. However, 23 persons arrested in connection with the clash, including Sri Rama Sene Chief Ramakant Konduskar, were released on bail.

But the police re-arrested them on Saturday in some other cases related to the incident.
