The communally sensitive Khadak Galli in the city witnessed tense moments following the stone-pelting incidents during the Urs procession of the Mehboob Subhani Dargah that passed through the Galli late Friday night.

Residents of Khadak Galli raised objections to allowing the procession to pass through the locality. The situation escalated when a group of youths in the procession raised the slogan ‘I Love Muhammad’, leading to stone-pelting incidents.

Police personnel rushed to the area and brought the situation under control. 

Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase visited the spot. He said, “Some people in the procession strayed into the area, leading to tension. There were no injuries in the incident of stone-pelting. We have CCTV footage and the accused would be booked based on the videos. Swords being displayed did not come to our notice, but if found in CCTV recording, action will be taken,” he warned.

Situation was calm on Saturday and police deployments remained in the area. Senior police officials have been camping in the locality to prevent untoward incidents. No arrests were made regarding the incident.
