Ten persons, including four of a family, were killed in six accidents in the city since Wednesday night. Nine people suffered injuries.
Four members of a family from Hasanapura in Kalaburagi - Shivappa Pujar, 45, his wife Mahadevi, 40, daughter Lakkamma, granddaughter Ranjitha, 4, and Shankarappa, the autorickshaw driver, were killed after the auto rammed a mini-truck parked on the side of 8th cross, JC Nagar, Kurubarahalli, on Thursday.
Shivappa’s other children Mariyappa, 18, Linganna, 17 and Vijayalakshmi were injured. The seven of them had hired the autorickshaw from the Yeshwantpur railway station and were on their way to the house of Shivappa’s brother Ninganna at Ravinagar when the accident occurred at around 2.30 pm, police said.
The injured are being treated at Nimhans and Mariyappa is said to be critical. The police detained Hanumanth Niglekar, the mini-truck driver, for parking it without safety measures. Brake failure and Shankarappa’s reckless driving resulted in the accident, police said.
In another accident near Command Hospital in Halasuru area, Siddaraju, 26, a native of Tiptur and Mohan, 33, of Shivamogga were killed, while Lokesh, Kiran, Imran, Prabhu and Shankar were injured when the mini-goods vehicle in which they were travelling rammed a median and toppled. The victims were flower decorators and residents of Chamarajpet.
Muniraju, 24, was killed while Sampath, the pillion rider, suffered minor injuries after Muniraju collided his bike with an electricity pole near Kodigehalli main road on Wednesday night. They were both residents of Garudacharpalya.
Umesh, 26, a resident of Yeshwantpur and delivery boy in a private courier company, was mowed down by a lorry near the Nagawara flyover under-ramp on Wednesday night. He fell down after his bike touched the lorry, while attempting to move past it and the rear wheel of the truck ran over his head. The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled, said the police.
Sridevi, 17, a resident of Naloorahalli, was mowed down by a tractor near Naloorahalli main road in Whitefield on Wednesday evening.
