The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel in the train had alerted the police after they noticed the girls travelling on their own. All the girls were below 18 years of age and knew only Oriya, although they were from Andhra Pradesh.

The police handed the girls over to Bosco, an NGO involved with rehabilitation of streetchildren. Bosco’s Childline team took the girls to the Child Welfare Committee. After further inquiries, the Committee would decide whether to book a case or send the girls back to Andhra Pradesh, sources said.

It is learnt that two of the girls had already come to Bangalore and worked in a garment factory. They had apparently gone back to bring other girls. The girls are said to be from Salarpura in Andhra Pradesh.
