Bengaluru: To address concerns related to community animals, the BBMP has introduced the 1533 helpline, announced Suralkar Vikas Kishor, Special Commissioner for Health and Animal Husbandry (BBMP), on Tuesday.

In a statement, Kishor explained that the helpline is designed to streamline citizen queries regarding animal welfare.

“Citizens can reach out by dialing 1533, using the mobile app or logging requests through the Bangalore One portal. Once a request is logged, our veterinary inspectors — who also serve as authorised anti-cruelty officers for each ward — will visit the site and address the issue,” the statement said.

The helpline now offers more detailed categories and a broader scope of services. In addition to handling common complaints like animal birth control, anti-rabies vaccinations, and dog bite management, it will assist with harassment of animal feeders, animal breeding control, and licensing matters.

Specific timeframes have also been set to resolve various issues: animal birth control and anti-rabies vaccinations (five days), harassment of feeders (two to three days), breeders, licences for pet shops and butcher shops (seven days), animal cruelty cases (two days), and rescues (one to two days, in a limited capacity).
