In a two-hour special drive on Thursday, the traffic police booked 1,794 two-wheeler riders and pillion riders for not wearing helmets. A senior police officer, who did not want to be named said, “It was being observed that in the East division, the riders and pillion riders were taking the helmet rule lightly. On Thursday morning, we decided that a special drive will be carried out and within two hours 1,794 cases were registered. We also requested the motorists who were booked, to wear helmets and also make their pillion riders wear them.”

The officer also added that more such drives will continue in various parts of the city. “Two-wheeler riders should not show any kind of laxity in wearing helmets as they could save lives during accidents. Several riders and pillion riders gave an excuse saying it was too hot and humid to wear helmets. That is no reason to avoid wearing helmets,” the officer said.
