Urging the State government to fulfil their long-standing demands, two guest lecturers attempted suicide in the midst of a stir called by their peers from all over the City on Tuesday.

Both the lecturers were from Ramanagara. One of them, Gangadhara, has been admitted to a hospital, according to Lokesh P C, vice president, Karnataka State Government Degree College Guest Lecturers’ Association.

As many as 6,000 lecturers from all over the State had gathered in the City to stage a dharna in front of the chief minister’s residence.

Police foil plans

The protesters were, however, arrested and taken to as many as eight police stations, including Adugodi, Ulsoor, Malleswaram and Upparpet.

“We had started from Majestic and proceeded till Anand Rao Circle when we were arrested by the police,” said Lokesh. Guest lecturers in the State have demanded for long that their posts be regularised and salaries increased.

They had recently staged a dharna outside the Suvarna Soudha in Belgaum during the winter session of the Legislature.
