Bangalore International Airport limited (BIAL) on Tuesday distributed identity cards to all commercial drivers operating at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB) and enrolled them under the ‘Karnataka State Private Commercial Vehicle Drivers Accident Benefit Scheme.’

To protect family members of unorganised sector workers, the State government in 2012-13 had introduced the accidental insurance scheme.

A Bangalore International Airport Limited press release said the drivers have also been brought under various initiatives such as fire prevention and safety training, free eye check-up camp for airport taxi drivers and road safety training.

“About 2,000 drivers are being provided with an insurance cover today as a part of this initiative,” said Bhaskar Bodapati, Sr Director Finance & Support Services, BIAL.
