Three nurses from the city, suspected to have been infected by the Nipah virus, tested negative for the infection.

The swab samples of the nurses were sent to the Manipal Centre for Virus Research as they had complained of a cough, headache and body pain, which is symptomatic of the infection.

Dr Anil Kumar, professor, Manipal Centre for Virus Research, confirmed that the samples tested negative. He said that even though the nurses had travelled to Kerala, the infection would spread only if they had come in contact with people infected with the Nipah virus.
