The Jeevan Bima Nagar police, along with the Model Code of Conduct team, arrested four JD(S) workers reportedly distributing money to voters in Narayanappa Layout on Friday night.

The police identified the arrested as Ramachandra, Dominic, Javed Nazir and Arif Pasha, all residents of Jeevan Bima Nagar. At around 11.30 pm, the police and the MCC team received a tip-off that the four men had kept around Rs 2 lakh cash in a Scorpio jeep and were distributing the money to the people asking them to vote for the JD(S).

Plainclothes police officers and the MCC team arrived at the spot, seized the cash from the vehicle and arrested the four. JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda rushed to the Jeevan Bima Nagar police station on Saturday morning and enquired about the incident. Gowda, who was at the station for about 10 minutes, claimed that innocent party workers had been falsely implicated.

Four held

The Whitefield police detained four men distributing cash to voters from a Tempo Traveller van near a private school on the Whitefield main road.

The police said that on Saturday afternoon, some Congress workers noticed people making a beeline for the Tempo Traveller. When they checked, they found four men sitting inside distributing money to voters. They caught hold of them and handed them over to the police. Later, the Congress workers pelted the vehicle with stones.

Cash seized from govt car

The Peenya police seized a government official’s car and recovered Rs 2.75 lakh in cash near Peenya main road on Saturday. The car belongs to Lokeshappa, an executive engineer in the PWD in Chikkamagaluru, the police said.

On Friday morning, Lokeshappa was to attend a meeting in Bengaluru. However, he directed his staff to reach the City by car, telling them he was unwell and that he would travel by train. He also told them to collect Rs 2.75 lakh from a certain Jairam. On a tip-off, the police intercepted the vehicle in Peenya and seized the cash.
