Officials from the BMTC said the State-run corporation pressed some of its scheduled buses in the morning, but had to withdraw it within hours after 42 vehicles were damaged in incidents of stone pelting by unruly mobs and miscreants, in various parts of the City.

“We sustained revenue loss to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore, a full day’s loss apart from Rs 5 lakh from damages caused by way of broken window glass panes etc.,” said officials.

BMTC withdrew its entire fleet of Volvo premium services in the City and to the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) as a precautionary measure. A total of 370 Vajra and 63 Vayu Vajra operate daily, apart from 5,000 buses of other categories. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had also withdrawn 5,000 plus of its buses from service from 6 am to 6 pm. A lone bus of KSRTC was damaged at Harihar, near Hubli.
