475 dogs to take part in show

Canine lovers of the City are in for a treat as they will get to witness variety of dog breeds vying with each other during the upcoming Grand All Breeds Championship Dog Show on December 6 and 7.

The 30th and 31st annual championship show organised by the Bangalore Canine Club will have around 475 dogs from over 50 breeds taking part. Some rare breeds that will be on display are Neopolitan Mastiff, Akita and Dog de Bordeaux.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Secretary of the canine club, Preetham T, said: “This is the first time we have so many dogs taking part. The show will be judged by Judy Horton from Australia and Rui Oliviera from Portugual. There will be different categories in competition such as best breed, best puppy, best Indian breed, best in the show, best of groups among others.”

“The judges will award the dog that appears to be closest to the breed standard,” Preetham added.

The show will also witness junior handling competition where in child handlers will exhibit their handling skills and walk away with the best Junior Handler’s prize.

Along with the Bangalore Canine Club dog show, there will be two specialities - The Golden Retriever Club of India (Karnataka Chapter) will hold its third speciality dog show and the Labrador Retriever Club of India will hold its 10th national show on December 7.

The dog show will take place at White Orchid, Manyata Tech Park, Outer Ring Road from 9 am to 6 pm on both the days. The entry fee is Rs 99 for adults and Rs 49 for children.
