The banned Maggi noodle packets from the neighbouring states including Goa, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are being sent to the ACC cement factory in Wadi, Chittapur taluk, about 50 km from Kalaburagi, for incineration.
According to an official from Health department, these states have already started sending their stock to the factory. Karnataka has received 600 tonnes of the noodles for incineration.
According to Kalaburagi Food Safety Officer R S Biradar, so far 477 tonnes of Maggi has been destroyed and it may continue for one more week.
Nestle India, the maker of Maggi noodles, has entered into an agreement with Associated Cement Company for destroying huge stocks of Maggi. The ACC authorities claimed that the plant had adopted highly advanced technology and hence the banned food product was being incinerated without causing any harm to environment.
The test reports on samples from Bengaluru labs have revealed presence of lead and minimal traces of monosodium glutamate.
Samples have also been sent to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Lab at Kolkata for a third opinion. The State's Health department is awaiting reports on six more samples of noodles.
