Six construction workers suffered injuries as the roof of a building being constructed to house the Ayush Research Centre at Bejarallikatte village in Ramanagar taluk came crashing down on Thursday afternoon.

The police said that Chandan, 21 and Chandan, 22, both from Uttar Pradesh, Narayan, 36, from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, Obalesh, 33, Hanumanth, 26, and Narasappa, from Kalaburagi, suffered injuries. The condition of the two Chandans, who have fractured their legs, is serious, police said.

It is said that the incident took place due to the contractor’s negligence. The workers were busy constructing the roof at the entrance gate. The Chandans were working near the gate, while the others were on the roof. The roof collapsed all of a sudden and the two were almost buried under the debris.

It took about six hours for the local police and other workers to clear the debris. The duo were later shifted to the hospital, police said. The work on the Rs five-crore project began recently.
