7 more e-waste bins to be installed in City

Inaugurating the City’s first e-waste bin in the City in public space at the Customers Service Centre of the Public Utility building, he said the Centre has ordered a reduction in waste generated by hotels that have more than 20 rooms and restaurants which can seat up  to 40 people. The Board will list hotels, restaurants, marriage halls and banquet halls. They will be asked to install treatment plants, he added.

The bins are being installed by an NGO, Saahas, with financial support from KSPCB. Each bin is a thin, cylindrical structure that is three-feet high and has a diameter of 14 inches. It can accommodate a maximum of 8 kgs of waste. 

Co-ordinator of the e-bin project of Saahas, Padma Shastri said that CDs, floppy disks and batteries can be dumped into the e-receptacles. Saahas will put up seven more e-bins at the BDA Complex, Jayanagar; Central Library, R T Nagar; KSPCB office; Chitrakala Parishat and BBMP Complex.
