There are 844 illegal hoardings in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits and the government is taking every possible step to remove all of them, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told the Legislative Council on Thursday.

Giving a written reply to the BJP’s V Somanna, Siddaramaiah said instructions had been given to all divisional officers to impose fine on those who had erected flex boards and banners illegally within the BBMP limits and remove them at the earliest.

When Somanna asked what steps the government had taken to remove the banners, the chief minister said the BBMP commissioner had issued a circular on December 12, 2014, warning of disciplinary action against, and criminal prosecution of, officials who delayed cracking down on illegal hoardings.
