The fourth annual literary fest of Kristu Jayanti College was organised by the English department in the main auditorium of the college recently. The theme being ‘Celebration of old literature’, emphasis was given to the authors and play writers of the 14th and 16th century.
Present on the panel were Jithu Thomas, head, Department of English; Dr Gopakumar, Dean of Humanities; Fr Augustine George, vice-principal and Puneet Pathak, student president of the Erudite Club. Various events were organised to celebrate such as the Masquerade, Paper Presentation, Literary Quiz and the live exhibition.
As it was also the 400th death anniversary of William Shakespeare, the students enacted one of his well-known plays, ‘As You Like It’ which also turned out to be the highlight of the day.
“English is not only a means of language but also a path to culture,” stated Fr Augustine George, vice-principal. He told the students about the English language conveying the profundity of thoughts and richness of emotions along with connecting minds. Jithu Thomas emphasised on English being the key that unlocks doors to scientific and technical developments. Moreover, he also mentioned how ‘Delphia’ is an attempt on remembering the forgotten names in the world of literature.
Students performed enthusiastically in various events and bagged positions in the
literary quiz and the masquerade. “Being the first time, it was a very enriching experience being part of the live exhibition and getting to be part of ‘Delphia’ this year,” added Merlyn Thomas, a first-year student.
