To make Sakaala scheme more user-friendly, the government is proposing a move, wherein, a person who has applied for a particular service need not visit the office to avail the benefit.
In pursuance of this, all services under Sakaala scheme, can, in due course, be availed by applying online and await delivery at one’s doorstep by post. The service, will, however, be applicable to only those departments who offer citizen services through online applications.
According to Department of Public Administration & Reforms (DPAR) officials the proposal was a preliminary stage and would need cabinet approval to be put into place. While services like renewal of certificates, can be availed online, services like drinking water connections, may need visit to the respective office, sources said.
“We may tie up with the postal department” or else call private companies to bid and tie up with them for the service. Once implemented, the applicant has to bear postal charges and the rest will be ensured by the department. For services to be widely available, more departments will have to offer citizen services, where people will be able to apply online.
DPAR Principal Secretary Shalini Rajneesh said “we are preparing each department to provide services through public portals. We are enrolling more than 3,000 cyber cafes through deputy commissioners to ensure online services.” The new scheme, once available online, can help weed out middle men, officials said.
