Mamamouchi is the Kannada adaptation of Jean Baptiste Moliere's famous French play, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme.
The play is a satire on the desperate attempts of the middle classes to try and ape the perceived superior and sophisticated upper classes. Moliere has poked fun at the attempts of people from the middle-classes, sacrificing their greatest treasures to try and achieve snobbish upper-class razzle-dazzle.
Although the play is set in the 17th century, the meaning of the ‘Bourgeois Gentleman’ is meaningful even in the 21st century. The play has been masterfully adapted in Kannada by K V Subbanna. The meaning and spirit of the play has been maintained and brought out beautifully. It is guaranteed to keep the audience in splits.
