Vastrabharana’, a fundraiser event organised by Crafts Council of Karnataka is being held at Chitrakala Parishat till October 5.
The event was inaugurated on Sunday by actor and dancer Vyjayanthimala Bali and actor Sharmiela Mandre. Every year, the event sees participants from all over the country.
This year’s exhibition will have contemporary handwoven saris by Pankaja like ‘bandha’ (‘ikat’ from Cuttack) with minimalistic detailing along with beautiful drapes, handspun ‘khadi’ tussar from Gopalpur enhanced with ‘kumba’ and extra weft work motifs.
The exhibition will also showcase the famous ‘uppada’ and ‘paithani’ saris and the exquisite ‘Andhra khadi’ by Ghanshyam Sarode of Hyderabad. One can also go for the attractive hand blocked printed yardage by Gamtiwala of Ahmedabad and hand block printed silk with natural dyes by Pracheen.
Customers can also look for Anuradha Pegu’s unique natural dyed weaves of Assam, the colourful ‘chanderis’ from Marm Creations, exquisite and affordable ‘Andhra cotton ikats’ from Abhihara and Leena Das fine ‘tussars’ from Bihar among others.
The other highlights on display will be ‘Hasta’ weaves of Chennai.
Lakshman Rao’s ‘mangalgiri’ saris of Andhra Pradesh are also part of the exhibition.
There will also be a variety of hand-woven ‘tussars’ from Bengal, Bihar, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
The purpose of this exhibition is to promote a direct purchase of the very best quality in handcrafted
textiles genuinely brought by master weavers and printers at reasonable prices without involving middlemen.
The exhibition will be on from 10 am to 7.30 pm.
