Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar convened a meeting late Monday night, to take stock of drought situation in the State.

Earlier in the day, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had slammed the government for its “inefficiency” in tackling drought. Logistics regarding fodder stocking was discussed at length, sources said.

As many as 15 districts in the State are facing severe shortage of fodder. Moreover, the Animal Husbandry department has hinted that existing stock of fodder would exhaust in the next 11 weeks.

The State has zeroed in on Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to get fodder to tide over the crisis.

However, Yeddyurappa asked Shettar to shelve the idea of getting fodder from outside the State.

Instead, the government should transfer transportation cost to farmers in the State and encourage them to grow fodder, he said.
