Teachers of the school had engaged in a protest against the principal's alleged rudeness with them, demanding her resignation.

Principal of Baldwin Girls’ High School resigned on Friday following a day-long protest by the staff, who accused her of harassment and rude behaviour.

Sources said Saloni Rakesh Ratnam handed over her resignation to Bishop N L Karkare at about 2.30 am on Friday. Staffers of the school resorted to protest after their colleague Sunita Behra suffered a stroke while being questioned by the principal two days ago.

“The protest was the result of our pent up anger. The principal was very rude. She dumped all the administrative work on us and harassed us by name calling. We were never given an opportunity to explain our point in any given situation,” a staffer said.

The staffer said Sunita was recovering at Seeta Bhateeja hospital. Two more teachers, Pushpa and Cecelia Savio, who collapsed during the questioning by the principal, have completely recovered, the staffer added.

Management intervenes
“We are happy that the management has intervened and resolved the issue. We have no problems to work now,” the staffer added.

Sources said Shaila John Wesley, manager of the school, has taken over the role of principal until further orders from the Bishop.
