Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner, Maheshwar Rao, on Saturday said that the civic body was aiming to clear all the black spots in the city permanently.
Rao emphasised the need for zonal-level actions to clear black spots. “Strict monitoring and imposition of penalties are being enforced on individuals who dump waste by the roadside,” he said.
He added that sustainable solutions to the city’s waste management issues must be prioritised, including the establishment of more composting units and bio-methanation plants at the source.
The discussion was held during a meeting that Rao had with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in the East zone. Zonal Commissioner Snehal said that a comprehensive plan will be formulated to address the waste management challenges in the East Zone. She announced that a campaign will be launched to control single-use plastic.
Residents who took part in the discussion suggested that the civic body increase the number of auto-tippers in the Indiranagar area, conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns on waste disposal practices, establish composting units within each ward, and provide separate bins for wet and dry waste to prevent mixed waste collection.
