An alert taxi-driver helped nab three men who robbed people at a private hospital in Hebbagodi on Monday using 'attention diversion tactics'.

The arrested have been identified as Raju (24), Kiran (25) and Suresh (26), all habitual offenders from Bengaluru and Hosur, the police said.

The three men used to loiter in the Narayana Health hospital premises and initiate conversations with patient attendants and visitors. They would give chocolates to children and help their people by fetching them water etc, and later they would vanish with their handbags or other belongings, the police said.

On Monday around 3.30 pm, a taxi-driver Chandrappa, a resident of Attibele noticed the trio's movements and suspected the men's motives. He observed the men who tried to steal a handbag of a woman at the hospital and escape from the spot.

Chandrappa soon gathered his fellow taxi-drivers and they chased and nabbed the trio and gave them a sound thrashing before handing them over to the police. Hebbagodi police have registered a case and have arrested the trio.
