Hundreds of citizens took part in the third edition of Kaikondrahalli lake festival on Sunday. The lake, on Sarjapur Road, and its surroundings, were abuzz with activities.

Organised by Mahadevpura Parisara Samrakshane Mattu Abhivrudhi Samiti (MAPSAS), a community-oriented non-profit trust, the lake festival enthralled the young and old who had gathered there as early as 7 am to take part in the events such as bird walk, spider walk, storytelling, photography workshop and drawing.

“The festival, besides having fun activities, also was an informative one, specially the event 'Feed the soil', where children and citizens got to feed compost to plants in and around the water body,” said a resident of Shantinagar and sustainability expert, Kavya Chandra.

The festival that went on till 6 pm was organised by MAPSAS with the objective of instilling awareness among citizens on lakes and to increase community participation.

Maya Kilpadi, another participant said lake festivals should take place on a regular basis. She added: “This should happen in other parts of the city where waterbodies are present so that people can connect with nature and also get to know their neighbourhood.”

The day-long activity ended with the rendition of Kabir bhajans and other soulful songs by folk singer Prahlad Singh Tipaniya. Rangoli contest, workshop on waste management and millets workshop were the other highlights of the festival.
