Apartment dwellers attacked for noisy puja celebrations

The city police arrested seven people, including two women, for attacking officers and residents of the Isha Misty Garden Apartment in Channasandra during the Durga puja celebrations on Thursday night.

Based on CCTV evidence, which was clear enough, the police arrested Muniswamy, Srinivasa Gowda, Omprakash Gowda, Anil, Vinod, Shashikala and Hemavathy.

The police said the accused objected to the loud music played during the puja celebrations. They barged into the premises and assaulted the residents and two police officers deployed for security along with the guard.

The apartment dwellers said they had got police permission to hold the celebrations, despite which the mob forced its way into the gated community and attacked everyone, including children and senior citizens. They also alleged that the attackers pelted stones at the procession carried out on Friday night for the immersion of the idol.

The Kadugodi police conducted a detailed inquiry and arrested the accused, who were produced before the magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. They are also on the lookout for the other accused, who are absconding.
