The Army Chief General said the relocation will ramp up the personnel strength at the ASC centre here by 40 per cent taking the head count to about 5,000 including trainees. He said that the ASC centre here has about 400 acre of land but the Army is looking for additional land and added that the process of shifting will be complete in one year.
Lack of officers
He said that the Army is facing a shortage of officers and is therefore planning to add an academy and Bihar has been identified as the ideal place for the academy. He awarded Diploma certificates to retired army personnel who successfully completed a course in ‘Assistive Motor Devices’ sponsored by Callidie Motor Works and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) under the army’s initiative –– Project Samarth.
Project Samarth, he said, envisages vocational skills training of the ex-servicemen to enable their re-employment in private sector. As many as 28 PBORs (person below officers rank) were trained and the jawans from the Madras Regimental Centre who underwent a ten-day training in servicing and sales of specialised wheelchairs manufactured for persons with disability, will now work as district and state-level coordinators of the company for the sales and services of its products.
