The City traffic police on Thursday launched ‘Bangalore City Saptavarna Suraksha Sugama Sanchara (BC4S)’ initiative, with the High Grounds traffic police taking up registration of autorickshaws.
The process would be expanded to the remaining six traffic sub-divisions shortly. BC4S registration forms are available at all traffic police stations. Autorickshaw drivers have been asked to collect them and enrol for the scheme.
BC4S aims at identifying autorickshaws by pasting stickers with different colours on vehicles, documenting driver’s details. The idea is to help passengers hire autorickshaws registered with police and ensure safety.
The police would provide alphanumeric code to auto drivers based on locations where they reside. A colour-coded number plate containing the code would be displayed on front and rear of autorickshaws.
With seven traffic sub-divisions, the police have chosen rainbow colours with each sub-division getting different colour.
It is felt that the initiative would reduce complaints like harassment of passengers, collection of excess fare, refusal for hiring and rude behaviour. It will help commuters identify autorickshaws based on colours if they fail to note down numbers. The police are confident autorickshaws plying illegally would be weeded out once BC4S covers the entire City.
