Commuters, brace up for hardship on Monday. More than 80,000 autorickshaws will go off the City roads in view of a strike from 6 am to 6 pm.

Supported by almost all major auto drivers’ unions here, the dawn-to-dusk protest strike will affect people, especially those who have to reach railway stations, the Kempegowda bus station and other satellite bus terminals. To make up for the inconvenience, the BMTC will ply 100-150 extra buses, apart from regular schedules in various parts of the City.

Adarsha Auto and Taxi Driver’s Union president M Manjunath said: “We are going on strike to protest the decision of the government to have autorickshaws change their black-body-and-yellow-top colour combination to green and yellow. It will cost us Rs 12,000 per auto, which is not viable.

“Drivers and unions are also against the government order to make digital meters compulsory. We want the order cancelled.”
