Banking public were put to inconvenience with the employees of nationalised banks going on a two-day strike from Monday.
Businessmen and traders felt the heat of the strike with there being no transactions at the banking institutions. Ajit Prasad, a resident of Rajajinagar said Monday was the last day for depositing money for his property transaction.
“I had no knowledge of the strike and hence went to State Bank of India near my house for depositing the money. But, the branch was closed,” he said. A trader who went to Vijaya Bank in Vijayanagar had a similar experience. There were also complaints that ATMs had run out of cash and the situation is likely to worsen on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, employees staged a protest in front of State Bank of India, Regional Office, demanding the government and Indian Banks Association (IBA) for the revision of salary implementation of 10th pay commission recommendations.
Y Sudarshan, General Secretary, All India Bank Officers Confederation, said: “We have approached the Central government nine times seeking implementation of 10th pay commission recommendations. But, the government is neglecting the banking sector.
There has to be pay revision once in five years,” he said. “We do not want public to be affected by our strike. Our intention is only to highlight the issues we are facing. The banks have filled the ATMs with enough money,” he claimed.
