‘Noise level went up during Diwali’

Noise level quality in various parts of the City during the just-concluded Deepavali celebrations significantly exceeded the prescribed national limits, according to a study conducted by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

In an ambient noise level monitoring for short duration (5 to 11 pm) at different locations - Cubbonpet (commercial area), AECS Layout, Whitefield and Vijayanagar Club (residential localities), and Indiranagar ESI Hospital (sensitive area), the KSPCB found that the noise levels exceeded by 25-51 percent from national standards during Deepavali (November 5-7). Compared to the 2009 levels, however, they decreased by 12 percent at three places whereas they increased by 4.5 percent at the fourth location.
