The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) started removing encroachments from footpaths in Yelahanka and Mahadevapura zones on Friday.

Eighty-one temporary and 11 permanent encroachments were removed from pavements in both the zones. Twenty-seven shops were removed from footpaths at Nagawara, Thanisandra, in the Yelahanka zone. The remaining encroachments were removed along a two-kilometre-long stretch on Mahadevapura Main Road. The BBMP’s local health inspectors supervised the eviction drive.

The BBMP has started evicting footpath encroachers on the orders of Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara. R L Parameshwaraiah, the chief engineer of Mahadevapura and Yelahanka zones, said similar drives would be conducted in other zones.
