The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will issue notices to building owners who have allowed installation of mobile towers on their buildings without obtaining persmission from competent authorities.
According to the BDA Rules, any person leasing out the terrace for installation of mobile tower should seek proper sanction from the Authority for converting a residential area into a commercial space.
BDA Commissioner T Sham Bhatt has sought a report from the Town Planning Department on the buildings which have not obtained permission from the Authority before installing mobile towers. He has directed the Authority to ensure that legal action is initiated against owners of such buildings.
The action comes in the wake of a memorandum suibmitted by B M Shivakumar, an RTI activist of Jayaprakash Narayan Vichara Vedike.
According to Shivakumar, the BDA (allotment of sites) Rules 1984, clearly state that land in the BDA layouts across the City, allotted for residential purpose, cannot be converted for commercial use, without obtaining the Authority’s permission.
“Despite this, several house owners are leasing out the terrace space of their houses for the installation of mobile towers,” he had alleged.
