While the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is cracking down on the encroachers of stormwater drains across the city, it failed to check that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had formed sites on the edge of the SWD.

Just a few metres away from Avani Sringeri Nagar which was the first layout to bear the brunt of BBMP's demolition drive, is BTM 6th Stage Layout. A few sites have been formed exactly on the edge of the stormwater drain.

One of the sites belongs to Karthik Manjunath. The acquisition certificate given by the BDA has a schedule, which shows SWD on the north and west side of the site.

Wing Commander G B Athri, who found this illegally formed site, said, “The site cozily nestles in the buffer zone of the stormwater drains. The BBMP authorities are very shrewd. They razed many buildings in Avani Sringeri Nagar and Shubh Enclave but spared this layout.”

He said this layout has been formed throwing all the norms to wind. He says he had approached the BBMP and BDA, but to no avail.
