Bengaluru: Dozens of trees and branches were uprooted by pre-monsoon thundershowers that have pounded Bengaluru since Thursday evening.
According to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), it received complaints of 68 trees and 93 branches being snapped across the city from 9 pm on Thursday to 8 pm on Friday. Another 19 trees and 33 branches were uprooted between 5 pm and 8 pm on Friday.
A parked car suffered extensive damage after a giant tree crashed on it in VV Puram, near the National College metro station, around 7 pm. The BBMP said its workers removed the fallen tree and its branches, the damaged car, and cleared the road by 8:30 pm.
BBMP Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao also directed officials to work with Bescom and the fire force to attend to a live wire lying unattended on Vanivilas Road. BBMP officials were also attending to 14 people reportedly stranded in a house following the rains.
