Religious preparations leading to the Feast of Nativity of Our Mother Mary across Karnataka also marked reverence to Mother Teresa, who was declared a saint by Pope Francis at the Vatican on Sunday.

The day was celebrated with gaiety and prayer not just by the Catholic community but also by people cutting across regions and religions. There was a special programme at St Philomena’s High School by Christha Karmikara Kshemabhivrudhi Sangha during the canonisation programme in the Vatican.

Known as the Saint of the Gutters, Mother Teresa of Kolkata, a Nobel Peace prize winner, is remembered for her relentless work for the poor.
