A first-of-its kind biomethanation processing plant in the City has been set up for processing organic waste generated by bulk generators at Kannahalli.

This is a small, yet significant step towards solving the City’s gargantuan waste problem. Set up by NobleExchange with the help of BBMP and BBHA (Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association), the plant has a capacity to process about 120 tonnes of wet waste per day.

Gobind Srivatsa, vice-president of NobleExchange Environment Solutions, said, “We have tied up with 150 hotels and commercial establishments. The plant can process hotel/wet waste and convert food waste into methane, which is purified and bottled as compressed biogas (CBG), a renewable fuel. We have covered West Bangalore as of now and next, we are looking at Central and South Bengaluru.”

The company said that while the land for setting up the plant has been provided by the State government, the BBHA (with 1,500 members) will provide food waste.
