Two accidents on Old Madras Road saw a pedestrian mowed down by a BMTC bus and a water tanker ram a two-wheeler, leading to traffic congestion on the busy stretch on Thursday.

A 38-year-old food vendor died after a BMTC bus ran him over when he was crossing the road near Vijinapura around 8.15 am. Police identified the victim as Murugan, a resident of Sanjay Gandhi slum in Laggere. He had come to Whitefield for some personal work. The bus was plying between Kempegowda International Airport and Electronics City. Murugan suffered grievous injuries and died instantly. The driver abandoned the bus and fled the spot.

In the second accident, a water tanker rammed a bike and then hit an electricity pole before coming to a halt on the cable-stayed bridge in KR Puram  around 1 pm. There was no casualty but traffic piled up on the road up to two kilometres as the tanker had broken down and could not be moved out. Traffic moved slow from Tin Factory till Big Bazaar on Old Madras Road for more than an hour until the tanker was removed with a crane.
