Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has intensified ticket checks on buses operating in and around the city to curb ticketless travel.

According to a statement released by the BMTC, checking staff inspected 19,781 trips in January 2025, penalising 2,965 ticketless passengers and collecting Rs 6,50,395 in fines. Additionally, 1,757 cases were booked against conductors for dereliction of duty.

During the same period, 325 male passengers were fined for occupying seats reserved for women, with penalties totalling Rs 32,500, as per Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rule 94 read with Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

In total, 3,290 passengers were penalised in January, and the BMTC collected Rs 6,82,895 in fines.
