The city police on Saturday thoroughly checked trains leaving for Chennai and arriving from Chennai to Bengaluru after an unidentified person tweeted to Chennai police that a bomb had been planted in a Chennai-bound train.

The bomb detection and disposal squad rushed to the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station around 5 am. The police checked the Shatabdi Express bound for Chennai for about one hour. Permission was given to the loco pilot to move after the police did not find any explosive materials. The Shatabdi Express train that reached Bengaluru around 11 am from Chennai and another train that reached the city around 4 pm were also checked, but nothing was found, said the police.

The Chennai police had alerted their counterparts across the country to check the trains bound for Chennai after they received the tweet. Trains at various others destinations in other states were also checked, said the police.
